New records and new species of Amphipoda (Crustacea) collected in the South-West of French Atlantic Coast
Abstract
Exploration of mainly circalittoral rocky habitats in the South-West of the French Atlantic coast during the CIRCATAX project revealed four new species and five new records of amphipods. Lepidepecreum antennatum sp. nov., Iphimedia jeanneae sp. nov., Hornellia (Metaceradocus) serrata sp. nov. and Gammaropsis sorbei sp. nov. are herein described. Hornellia (Metaceradocus) serrata represents the first record of the Hornellidae family in European waters. The new records concern Stenothoe eduardi, which represents the first report in the Bay of Biscay, Stenothoe bosphorana as the northernmost record in European waters, Iphimedia spatula as the southernmost record of the species in the European waters, Iphimedia eblanae as the southernmost record of the species in the Atlantic Ocean and Ampelisca serraticaudata as the northernmost record in Atlantic Ocean. Dexamine cf. spinosa was also sampled, and is discussed on the differences between D. spinosa and D. filiola with the possibility of a species complex. European identification keys are provided for Lepidepecreum, Iphimedia and Gammaropsis species, and a world identification key for species of Hornellia.
